SERVICE - MA District 2

About Service
Service is an opportunity for the recovering addict to take steps towards commitment, as well supporting both the 12th step and the primary purpose of MA: Staying free of marijuana, and helping the addict who still suffers achieve the same freedom. Without Service, there would be no MA.

MA's Service Structure has many opportunities to be of Service at Meetings, on the District Service Committee, and for the MA World Service. Ask at any meeting, and you're sure to hear some interesting stories and points of view on the value of Service.

For more information about Service positions in
MA, consult the MA Service Manual.
MAWS Effectiveness Survey
MAWS is conducting an “Effectiveness Survey” across all districts, meetings and members, to evaluate what the society of MA thinks about MAWS’ service to date. We would like to collect a society-wide group-conscience to give direction to the type of work MAWS should be engaged in, and to help evaluate MAWS’ current ability and potential to serve MA’s needs, as conveyed by the group-conscience we collect.

SHARE YOUR OPINION!
Each month we would like answers to the monthly survey
questions
from you, your meeting, and/or your district:

Questions for January 2012:
  • Are we doing all we can to make service at the MAWS level attractive?
  • Tradition One: Does MAWS put the interests of any individual above the welfare of the Conference Body or of MA as a whole?
Previous Questions:
June 2011:
- How can MAWS be more effective?
- Tradition Six: Does anything MAWS does affiliate, endorse or bind the group, actual or implied, to any related facility or outside enterprise?

July 2011:
- Are there any factors that prohibit equal or fair attendance and participation in MAWS of MA Districts and Independent Meetings?
- Tradition Seven: Does MAWS receive donations from anyone other than MA groups or members?

August 2011:
- Do the participants of the Conference body represent a true group conscience of our fellowship as a whole?
- Tradition Eight: Are there any fees being charged for Twelve Step work? (Examples: fellowship, sponsoring, step work, counseling)

September 2011:
- Mindful that holding office is a great responsibility, do we have an environment that allows us to choose our Trustees, Delegates and Paid Workers with care? Do we have so few people willing to serve that the only criterion is availability? Are elections viewed as popularity contests?
- Tradition Nine: Does MAWS or any governing individual or exclusive group authority dictate organization to the society of MA?

 October 2011:
- Do the members of MAWS, Delegates, Trustees and Paid Workers, have a working understanding, as it pertains to MAWS participation, of the Principles outlined by our Three Legacies of Recovery, Unity and Service?
- Tradition Ten: Does MAWS do anything that publicly states an opinion or takes sides on any issues or controversy that are outside of MA?

 November 2011:
- Do elected Trustees and Delegates serve out their terms, or does the turnover seem excessive? If so, why? What can MAWS do as a group?
- Tradition Eleven: At the general public level, does MAWS publicize any individual MA member's name or picture as a self-appointed representative of MA?

 December 2011:
- Do we emphasize the importance of service sponsorship? How effectively? How can we do better?
- Tradition Twelve: Does MAWS give personal distinction to any member either among fellow marijuana addicts or the general public that puts their opinions above the conscience of the group or MA?

You can discuss these question on the MA Forum. Also you can submit your ideas and share your thoughts on these questions via email at mes@marijuana-anonymous.org.
